Makeup Geek eyeshadow is touted as being creamy, buttery, easy, blendable…all the positive descriptive words eyeshadow can presumably be. Is Makeup Geek worth the hype? For some reason it took me a number of years to pull the trigger. I’m not sure why. Perhaps it’s as a result of there’s no brick & mortar store? Maybe it’s as a result of they must be ordered from the Makeup Geek web site and can’t be ordered from an online retailer and combined with different purchases I needed to make or with an Ulta or Sephora factors program.

What plunged me into the Makeup Geek abyss was my final BoxyCharm which contained a 9-pan z-palette and two simple shadows, Creme Brulee and Bitten. I actually didn’t even use them for some time. They sat within the pan whereas I continued to use my other palettes and single shadows till sooner or later I eyed up Creme Brulee, considering it is perhaps a very good transition shadow. Boy was it! It swiped throughout my crease with such ease and blended so easily. Described as a tender medium sand colour with a velvety matte end, this was good…not too dark, not too gentle. It was the goldilocks of transition shades…the shade I’d been wanting all this time. What appeared as a plain shade in the pan was something however plain on my eye.

It was a week or so later, when i used Bitten, a deep maroon with a matte finish. Once more, I expected lots of fallout but found it applied and blended so easily. In the past when using cranberries and maroons, I felt like they made me look tired or sick. But this one really enhanced my eyes. Cut to the next week when i placed my first Makeup Geek order to fill up the remainder of my pan.

I really like the fact that Makeup Geek shadow pans are so inexpensive. $6 per pan makes it easy to strive new shades and create new combinations. It’s simple to see within the Makeup Geek swatches below that I used to be going for mostly browns and heat shades. But the choice on Marlena’s website is endless. (Notice that I at all times use an eyeshadow primer. Doing so will improve the application, in addition to improve the wear and longevity of any eyeshadow)

    Bitten (described above)

Bada Bing: (Gold-flecked chocolate brown with a refined sparkly end) That is the one the place I believed the pigment was just Ok. However, I bought this one principally to line with (dry or damp) and to enhance my outer v barely. For Highlighting Guidelines Glow ’s been Excellent.

Cocoa Bear: (Matte reddish brown) I like this shade within the crease and outer V. It’s warm and actually makes my eyes pop. I think this can be flattering on anybody!

Frappe: (medium maple brown with a demi-matte finish). Frappe has microscopic shimmer particles however capabilities as a matte when applied. It applies very silky and smooth. There’s simply sufficient difference between Cocoa Bear and Frappe to justify proudly owning both. I like to make use of this within the crease and sometimes on the lid too as a wash! I can’t do this with Cocoa Bear because it’s too deep for me.

Vanilla Bean: (Gentle Shimmer with peachy beige undertone) I’ve been utilizing this light heat beige shade as a browbone and internal corner spotlight. I don’t discover a ton of shimmer. This appears to fall between a satin and shimmer for me.

Peach Smoothie: (A smooth peachy orange with a matte end) I exploit this as a warm apricot transition shade if I take advantage of a light throughout shade beforehand. Sometimes I take advantage of it on the lid. It’s very nice and brightening to the eye.

Moondust: (Metallic silver taupe) Exactly as described. This is gorgeous on the lid or in the crease. It has just enough warmth in it for me. I really like the way in which it applies with a dense flat brush or my finger. A primer is crucial for this or the following two shadows…using one will not solely help them keep however look beautiful!

Homecoming: (Medium brown with gold shimmer) One other gorgeous lid shade that I think is a lot more than what the description says. To me it’s more of a deeper champagne than a easy brown.

Pocket Change: (soft bronze with a shimmery end) Gorgeous bronze that’s not too harsh on the lid or crease. The finish is shimmery yet not excessive.

MAC All that Glitters: (beige with gold pearl) Sure, that is here on purpose. I included it for comparability functions. You possibly can see that it seems to fall someplace between Peach Smoothie and Homecoming in terms of colour. It seemed appropriate to include it for reference.

Creme Brule: (described above) I preferred seeing this near Peach Smoothie. I had a hard time finding swatches on-line of those two transition shades near each other. They seem very completely different with the finger swatches yet they each do work nicely when utilized with a brush.

I’m extremely pleased with my first Makeup Geek Eyeshadow purchases. I like the shades I bought and may get a selection of various seems with the palette I created. I hope the eyeshadow comparison swatches are helpful. If you have favorite shades or thoughts about Makeup Geek typically, I’d love to listen to them within the comments!
